About UsEnergy FM Australia is a radio station that is dedicated to the Electronica genre of music. It is the only radio station of its kind located in Tasmania and only one of a few located in Australia. Our live programming is broadcast free-to-air in Hobart on 87.8 FM and streamed online to the rest of the world. We also offer on demand programming so our audience can listen to their favorite programs at any time using our website and by using their mobile devices. We have recently relocated our transmitter which has dramatically improved reception and increased our audience for our free-to-air service. Our broadcasting footprint services approximately 220,000 potential listeners living in central Hobart, the eastern shore, Kingston and the northern suburbs. We are actively negotiating more broadcast licenses so we can expand our free-to-air services into other areas of Australia. Our national and international audience listen online using their personal computers a their mobile devices. Our live stream can be initiated from our website and over 1.2 million users can find us in the radio lists within iTunes and on Apple TV. We are also listed in many other online radio applications. As a result, we have gained a strong listenership in the United States, United Kingdom and other parts of Europe. Our audience interacts with the radio station using our website and their mobile phone. We use this interaction to learn about our audience so we always provide a music service that is tailored to our listeners' interests and match those interests to the needs of our advertising partners. We build our audience by advertising in the Mercury Newspaper, cinema advertising, TV commercials, online advertising, posters, flyers and letter box drops. We undertake promotional activities at major public events throughout the year and align ourselves as a media partner with special dance music events and local community events.
HistoryEnergy FM officially started broadcasting in 1995 when the station's founder, Matthew Whayman, secured a narrowcasting FM license in the Hobart area. Prior to 1995, the station was operating as a pirate radio station. Since its inception, Energy FM has become an institution on the airwaves in Hobart - particularly from its broadcasting activities in the early days as it was the only means of hearing dance music on the airwaves (prior to the Internet). The founder of the radio station, Matthew Whayman, was an innocent victim in a car crash and was tragically killed in 1999. Energy FM was kept on the air in Matthew's memory by his parents, his brother and close friends for over 10 years. In 2010, Energy FM was purchased by local entrepreneur Mark Howell who has over 25 years expereince in radio brocasting (production and management). Energy FM is now operated by Mark's production company, New Sky Media, from studios located in Hobart's CBD. OwnershipEnergy FM Australia is operated by New Sky Media Group Pty Ltd - a company that is owned by Tasmanian businessman Mark Howell. Our advertising is highly entertaining and reflects the overall character of our programming. We want our listeners to enjoy our advertising so they are completely immersed in the brand of our advertising partners while listening to our programming. We also keep advertising to a minimum so the focus is maintained on the entertainment value of our content. ProgrammingEnergy FM Australia features programming presented by local radio talent and syndicated radio programs from all over the world. We give the Australian DJ community an outlet for showcasing their talent and we give Australian producers opportunities to get airplay for their original music and remixes. We actively involve ourselves with all major dance music events in Australia as both a major sponsor and promoter. We reguarly brodcast live from major dance parties held throughout Australia. Energy FM Australia has strong partnerships with most major record labels - giving us access to a massive library of the latest dance music content to showcase on air. This helps us keep our play list fresh and up-to-date with the latest dance music. We have partnered with some of the world's largest production angencies and program providers. As a result, we have a diverse selection of special interest and main stream radio programs that are broadcast each week. Value to the community"Dance" or "club culture" has become an international, multi-million dollar market, replacing rock as the most globally significant form of music. This form of music is typically enjoyed by an audience that is style conscious and technology savvy; comprising of young professionals who are early adopters of new products and consumers of "the latest thing". This presents us with a unique opportunity to provide entertainment and marketing to a local audience who would normally source this form of entertainment by other means (such as the Internet). Energy FM offers the business community and the music industry with a unique combination of high reach, high targetability, and low cost - when compared to other broadcast media. Our creative programming is designed to attract a new audience using traditional and non-traditional broadcasting methods. Our direct-response advertising techniques are designed to entertain our new audience by becoming part of our programming's character. For this reason, radio can be - and is for many of our clients - the main engine of growth and profitability for our partners. Non-stop dance music programming is not featured on any other free to air service in Tasmania. Having such a service available makes Hobart equitable with other Australian capital cities in terms of the diversity of locally produced content that is available to the community on free to air radio. It also encourages our audience to support locally produced content - rather than seeking from other sources. Energy FM actively supports and promotes Australian produced content ahead of content from other parts of the world. The radio station gives creative producers, performing artists and program presenters the opportunity to broadcast their content on both our free-to-air service and our online services. |
