Locked and loaded in the breach and ready to explode onto the Ministry of Sound Dance Stage Breath Of Life 2012, Ladies and Gentlemen welcome none other than the multi talented, multi project, one-man machine and international man of the moment, SKRILLEX.

Skrillex is versed in many different genres including Dub Step, Drum & Bass, Electro-House, etc. Describing his current sound as "a mix of dubstep, electro and glitch all thrown together," new SKRILLEX release "SCARY MONSTERS AND NICE SPRITES" reflects all of the above and beyond. The uplifting post-trance synth melodies of "ALL I ASK OF YOU" (featuring the soaring vocals of Penny) stands in stark contrast to the face-melting electro bass blasts of the massive electro-dubstep hybrid "ROCK N' ROLL (WILL TAKE YOU TO THE MOUNTAIN)."

Aside from the immediate success of "SCARY MONSTERS AND NICE SPRITES," SKRILLEX has also made a name for himself as a highly sought-after remixer. He's already produced officially commissioned remixes for such A-list artists as the Black Eyed Peas ("Rock That Body"), Lady Gaga ("Bad Romance" and "Alejandro"), and La Roux ("In For The Kill").

SKRILLEX stands not only at the vanguard of electronic dance music, but the perpetually evolving new music industry as a whole. Impressed? We're just getting started. Watch this space…Until then, breathe some life into your summer with some of Australia's most loved superstars; including Sneaky Sound System, Potbelleez, Tonite Only, Bombs Away, Goodwill The Only, Vandalism, Minx, Denzal Park, Helena, Haters and Danny T.

The "Global Soundsystem" radio show was launched in 2009 and is currently broadcast around the world in over 20 different countries. The fast growing success of Global Soundsystem led to one of tyDi's biggest surprises yet when he announced to his fans that superstar guests Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules, Sander Van Doorn and Markus Schulz would all be joining him to mix and host the 50th episode. Since then, the show continues to be dominated by celebrity DJs from around the world.

For two consecutive years tyDi was voted as Australia's #1 DJ (Sony ITM DJ Poll), as well as being listed highly in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs of the world in both 2009 and 2010. More recently, TyDi maintained his position #2 position in the Top 50 of the 2011 In he Mix Awards which continues his reign as one of the most successful Australian DJ's to grace this list.

If supporting Armin Van Buuren throughout his A State of Trance 500 world tour wasn't enough, TyDi's recently released sophomore album 'Shooting Stars' peaked at #1 on the iTunes dances charts in Australia and Finland. Can this guy go any higher?

The Global Soundsystem radio show features the latest new tunes, regular guest mixes from industry big-names and shout-outs to tyDi's fans across the globe. The show will go to air every Saturday night at 8pm AEST, right before Trance Around The World with Above & Beyond; making Saturday night's entertainment one of the biggest line-ups of the week on Energy FM Australia.

tyDi comes to Energy FM Australia

Identity with Sander Van Doorn

Energy FM Australia has joined forces with one of dance music's most essential, influential and popular DJ/Producers: Sander Van Doorn.
Championed by the likes of Carl Cox, Armin van Buuren, Tiesto and just about everyone else, Sander has been able to transcend the musical prejudice that so often accompanies being a big name DJ. That said, there are a group of clubs around the world that consistently pop up when discussing where to go for the best clubbing experience. Here is a brief rundown of the clubs that draw a primarily international crowd:

Space Ibiza is one of the most awarded clubs in the world picking up the IDMA award for best club in both 2005 and 2006. It opened in 1989 and due to noise complaints influencing the other main clubs on the island, is the only one to feature an outdoor terrace dancefloor. This has been a defining feature of the club and obviously a big part of its success, as 'We Love... Space" is one of the most famous club events on the planet.

Vegas is being touted as the new Ibiza and local investors are only too keen to encourage the tidal wave of house music culture enveloping the US. Testimony to this is Marquee, a custom built night AND day club based right in the centre of the city that never sleeps. In its short life Marquee has already hosted an unrelenting string of nothing but the best DJ's in the world and boasts the US's number one DJ Kaskade as resident. As the club was custom designed for the purpose of being a club, sound, lighting, decor, and facilities are all first grade. Marquee is currently the jewel in the crown of a city that is shaping up to become an unrivalled clubbing destination.

Surrounded by tropical rainforest and several lakes, Green Valley is one of the worlds true superclubs. It has a massive open air dancefloor and a capacity of 6000 people. After his first gig there Carl Cox reflected "If I had a club, it would be like Green Valley". Renowned for its electric party atmosphere, a visit to Green Valley would be a lifetime highlight for any clubbing enthusiast.

Berghain is located on the outskirts of Berlin in a former power plant. The building is characterised by is massive dimensions and bleak character. However if its atmosphere you crave, then Berghain is your destination as this is a club that is infamous for its decadence and hedonism. There is a room dedicated to sexual activity and camera's are strictly not allowed within the club. There are also no mirriors inside the club and no such thing as a VIP. Berghain is known for its extremely long events with people commonly partying for the entire weekend.

Cavo Paradiso is perched on a cliff face on the famous party isle of Mykonos. The dance floor surrounds a pool, which the DJ looks down over and out to the ocean. Gaining notoriety overseas for its wild party atmosphere, Cavo Paradiso is one to watch over the coming party seasons.

In 1991 some London Lads had the idea of starting a nightclub that focussed on sound, lighting and house music. After finding a disused bus garage they launched the now Legendary superclub Ministry Of Sound. Today The club comprises of five areas, features all of the leading DJ's from around europe and the world and cutting edge club technology to keep the place running almost every night of the year.

In a region of the world not known for its partying ways, it makes sense that one of their truly unforgettable nightspots is located in the multicultural travel hub of Singapore. Zouk is a monster of a club that the youth of Singapore take a tremendous amount of pride in. The club is actually a complex of several rooms that play different styles of music and the club regularly presents big name DJ's to the western savvy locals and tourists.

Zoe Badwi Poised For Global Success

Zoe Badwi has just released her latest single 'Carry Me Home', which is a collaboration with TV Rock's Grant Smillie. Judging from the buzz online this could be another number 1 spot for Australia's newest pop sensation and an added weapon in her campaign to crack the overseas markets.

The track is intensely relevant to current musical trends with a solid mixture of dance stabs, big room percussion, melodic vocal lines and even some accoustic downtime. Zoe's label Neon have shown confidence in the track by producing a slick video to accompany the release (see above) that stars Home & Away heart throb Richard Brancatisano.

Abroad, Zoe has just launched 'Release Me' Stateside, which was the track that first caught the Australian public's eye way back in 2008. The release was supported by a US club tour which is where Zoe originally came up with the idea for 'Carry Me Home', which was inspired by a ride in the back of a New York City Cab.

Hobart's Electronic Music Maestro

Those studying at the UTAS Conservatorium of Music in Hobart will already be familiar with the human treasure that the institution has managed to attract, however the general public may not yet be aware of his presence. This adds to an already stellar night of programming on Australia's newest dance music network.

Paul van Dyk is a Grammy nominated artist, globally acclaimed DJ and audio architect who continues to dominate the electronic music charts and appears at the pinnacle of every Top DJ list around the globe. PvD, as his fans have nicknamed him, has been ranked the World's No. 1 DJ by DJ Magazine's "Top 100 DJs poll" two times - something less than a handful of DJs have ever achieved.

Station manager, Mark Howell, closed the deal with PvD's management a few weeks ago. "I've been listening to VONYC Sessions for years and I am personally a big fan of Paul van Dyk and his music. Having him present his show on Energy FM Australia is an absolute privilege for us and our listeners" said Mr Howell.

VONYC Sessions is more than just a radio show. It's a program that has been giving electronic dance music junkies their weekly fix of quality music - and has been doing so for over 6 years already. The show is hosted by Paul van Dyk himself and goes far beyond 2 hours of new tunes that have been mixed together. It's a complete insight to dance music culture through the eyes of one of the biggest names in the industry.

"You can expect nothing but quality when you tune in to hear what PvD has on offer each week in what has been designed to be a fantastic listening experience with a level of production that is second to none" said Mr Howell.

I don't mean a DJ with impeccable integrity and presentation, I mean actual models (fashion, glamour, adult) who take up DJing and use their looks as the foundation of their career.

Far from having a go at the shallowness of club owners, promoters and agents, who often pick tits before talent, hiring girls who couldn't mix a salad. We feel it's our duty here at Energy FM to present to you the latest crop of these DJ's before they get too old, lose their looks and get replaced by someone hotter.

Colleen Shannon claim's to be the world's sexiest DJ and this is endorsed by playboy who featured her as their 50th anniversary playmate! Colleen mainly tours around the U.S. and has appeared in multiple movies, TV shows and magazines.

Lauren Pope is an English glamour model turned DJ, Lauren has held residencies in Ibiza, Majorca and London. In 2009 Lauren co-produced a remix that did ok on the UK charts, but is yet to release anything further.

Emily Scott is probably the most successful of the Australian wave of model/DJ's. Emily did at one stage dip her toe into the production pool, but didn't make much of a splash. It's interesting to note that Pioneer have jumped on the bandwagon of many of these marketable beauties releasing the brand 'She DJ' which endorses a bunch of hot girls who have basically contributed next to no decent music to the scene.

Nikki Belucci was originally famous for making hardcore porn, but has since restrained her more carnal urges and now makes a living DJ'ing topless around the place. Her parents must be very proud of her these days.

Pauly D is a himbo famous for starring on the show Jersey Shore. Somehow he manages to stay oblivious to the whole world laughing at him and has embarked on a DJing career.

Matt Steer is a DJ who was blessed with strikingly good looks. He has managed to capitalise on this by touring the gay circuit parties of Australia for the past decade.

The Immigrant releases his second single

Following in the footsteps of Australian Indie electronic artists such as: Cut Copy, Empire of The Sun and The Presets, is emerging talent The Immigrant.

Part time traveler, part itinerant electronic gypsy balladeer, The Immigrant recently returned home from his own personal creative Odyssey recently to a warm welcome. With his homecoming gift to his native land Through The Wire embraced with heart-warming enthusiasm, the question from the curious onlooker remains: what¹s next from this mysterious former musical nomad?

Weary from the rigours of a life lived from the confines of a dusty suitcase, our hero recovered from his extended artistic pilgrimage rapidly, throwing himself into the next chapter of his creative existence with a zeal and enthusiasm usually possessed only by the mad or even dare we say it, the truly great.

With the entity that is The Immigrant now crystallising, and Danny Ross returning for a reprise of his unique vocal performance, the next part of the journey can begin in earnest...

Summer Of Love (She Said) picks up where debut single Through The Wire left off, and then after completing an elaborate stylistic slight of hand, morphs into an unexpected ironic reminiscence of summer love.

Part post electro, part late night indie shindig sing-a-long, but wholly possessed of an understated confidence that points to a depth and maturity surprising in one so young, Summer Of Love (She Said) signals a surprising yet not altogether unexpected twist on The Immigrant¹s long road.

The Immigrant releases his second single

Tassie's unrecognised Electronic Music Talent

Tasmania is not known for its commercial music exports, with many artists only ever tasting success on the fringes of the mainstream industry. By no means do we have a dormant arts community, but it seems that Tasmanians, for whatever reason, are drawn to the more obscure or underground genre's of art, which unfortunately do not garner the same level of recognition as the more commercially lucrative styles.

As far as electronic music is concerned, we have had several exceptions to this rule, but for whatever reason the Tasmanian public has never been made aware or celebrated the fact that we produced these talents. Electronic music is relatively cheap to make and easy to learn when compared to more traditional forms of music that are often not an option for the average Tasmanian kid. Perhaps this could be the vehicle that finally allows Tasmanian artists to truly recognise their true potential, following in and expanding on the footsteps of the following artists.

Ask anyone in Tasmania who Andy Page is, and most people will stare blankly back at you. However ask Madonna, Alanis Morissette, Sasha or BT who he is and you would probably get a very confident and involved answer. Somehow this musical prodigy slipped through the cracks of local recognition and its a shame. Had he been a footballer or starred on Home & Away he would be a household name.

Andy is a quiet achiever who moved to Victoria and graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts. After establishing himself on the local DJ circuit he began collaborating with artists like Phil K and Ivan Gough (TV Rock), before packing up and traveling the world to work alongside some of the most influential musical figures of the past couple of decades. To give you some understanding of his musical pedigree, he co-produced Xpander with regular collaborator Sasha. Xpander is now a progressive house standard and a seminal track for dance music in general.

Another artist who left our shores in the pursuit of success is Burnie lad Paul Smith AKA Smithmonger. Paul moved to sydney to study Trumpet at the Sydney Conservatorium before being burdened with a passion for dance music. He began learning how to make house music on his computer before breaking through in the breaks scene. As he developed his sound and his reputation he soon realised that all the labels he wanted to work with were based in London and so he made the big move to the motherland.

Whilst in the UK Paul landed jobs working in studio's which gave him further access to the resources necessary to improve his sound. He prolifically released tracks for several years in the UK on labels 10kilo, Hooj Tunes, and Oblong with DJ's Carl Cox, Judge Jules, Plump DJ's and even Boy George supporting his records.

Tassie's unrecognised Electronic Music Talent

Does Deadmau5 Have An Attitude Problem?

Probably the most active member of the media as far as dance artists go is Joel Zimmerman AKA Deadmau5. He is constantly online updating his Facebook or Twitter and regularly broadcasts on Ustream. He makes a genuine effort to make himself available to his fans, but this activity has also sometimes been to his detriment. Compounding this is the fact that Joel's career appears to be largely self propelled, meaning he likes to maintain control over creative decisions and what he says and how he says it. This has made him the topic of blog and forum posts on a regular basis.

Nobody doubts that part of the massive success of the Deadmau5 juggernaut is due to Joel's active online participation, but he probably has a legion of some of the most loyal anti-fans on the planet. Controversy seems to be a common theme surrounding the career of Deadmau5 which sometimes seem's to take the shine off some of the awesome music he has released on his own incredibly successful label Mau5trap.

Here is a rundown of some of the messy situations the Mau5 has found himself in:

In 2008 Deadmau5 let rip in an interview with this flurry of PR magic:

"It puts me to f*****g sleep to be quite honest, I don't really see the technical merit in playing two songs at the same speed together and it bores me to f*****g tears and hopefully with all due respect to the DJ type that will f*****g go the way of the dinosaur id like them to dis-a-f*****g-pear. Joel continued, its so middle man, they're like f*****g lawyers. You need them, but they're f*****g c***s. God bless them they're my number one customer right so I'm not gonna go diss every f*****g DJ. But to say you become this massive up on a podium performer by playing other peoples productions at the same speed as someone else's productions and fading between the two of them, I don't get it."

The fallout was as would be expected with every dance blog online featuring an article about the interview and many DJ's turning their backs on his productions.

In 2010 Deadmau5 had an infamous run in with Dubstep hero Rusko, after the former lit up a joint backstage at an event they were both playing at. Deadmau5 objected, Rusko fired a few choice words his way and Deadmau5 called for security. The situation then overflowed onto twitter with Rusko tweeting "next time I see u ima snap u like a twig u skinny little C**T…and I will f****n see u…", followed by deadmau5 trying to diffuse the situation by referring to Rusko as "childish" and accusing him of riding the wave of his success.

Further down the track Deadmau5 began dating ex Playboy playmate Lindsey Evans, who also has a string of drug and theft charges to her name. This might not seem unusual in the world of clubbing and dance music, but it certainly has raised a lot of questions since Deadmau5 has begun to receive more mainstream popularity.

A year later Deadmau5 jumped online to respond to fan posts that the Black Eyed Peas had stolen an instrument loop from one of his remixes. Upon further investigation it did indeed look as though the BEP's had cheekily sampled some of Deadmau5's instrumentation without permission. This is the kind of thing that normally would be left to record company suits to deal with, but due to Joel's relative professional freedom he jumped straight online and called the californian pop stars out, even recreating their hit from scratch in an online stream for the world to see.

Most recently in our very own city of Brisbane Deadmau5 was high on the success of touring his massive LED live show around the country on the Creamfields tour. He was attending a function at a Brisbane club (so the story goes) when he passed criticism on the local DJ's tune selection... Said DJ promptly dropped him. The DJ in question was a bloke by the name of James Cameron, whether or not the incident was ever reported is unknown and neither party have since made official statements regarding the situation.

Do you think these situations have enhanced or jaded Deadmau5's image/popularity?...

Does Deadmau5 Have An Attitude Problem?

Miami 2011 Compilations Hit The Market

So Winter Music Conference wrapped up a bit over a month ago and all the prominent dance labels are now milking the last bit of promotion out of the event via their annual Miami branded compilations. Here is a rundown of the main few and what you can expect.

Toolroom have hit the market with 'Toolroom Records Presents Miami 2011', which they claim is the definitive soundtrack to WMC. 36 tracks long and 9 exclusive tracks makes this compilation one of the more attractive packages. On top of the quantity, toolroom are presenting some of the most bankable dance artists possible in this release with names like Fedde Le Grand, Deadmau5, Thomas Gold, Afrojack and label boss Mark Knight filling out the track-list.

It features three mixes that are themed to suit different party atmospheres. The poolside mix is a deep journey captained by Maya Jane Coles and is designed to get you in the mood to party. Gina Star's club mix is a big room buffet of driving progressive beats that resembles most of the buzz charts around the world at the moment. Finally Pete Griffith delivers an afterparty mix that is fueled by all the latest tech-house sounds.

Defected are offering 2 "discs" of the biggest records to be spun at this years conference. 'Most Rated Miami 2011' is a collection of the tracks destined to become this summer's (northern hemisphere's) biggest anthems. Besides this they don't really offer much of an explanation but instead leave you to ponder the track-lists. They have a pretty impressive line-up if you're into straight up house, with artists like Dirty South, Joris Voorn, Sandy Rivera, Olav Basoski and new label sweethearts Copywright.

Armada unimaginatively recycle the word 'essential' for the 1 millionth time with their compilation "Armada The Miami Essentials 2011'. Besides the bland name this package looks like a good score for the trance fan. It has an excellent selection of many of the best trance and progressive producers of the moment including tyDi, Ashley Wallbridge, Roger Shah, Dabruck & Klein and of course label head honcho and world number one DJ Armin Van Buuren.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, there are Miami compilations cascading forth from a variety of dance labels (with some releasing more than one title). This is a testimony to the WMC in general, which continues to run one of the most well organised and patronised cultural events in the world. Watch this space later in the year for more on the topic...

Miami 2011 Compilations Hit The Market

Cr2 Live & Direct comes to Energy FM

Mark Brown, front man of MYNC and owner of Cr2 Records is proudly bringing his radio show 'Cr2 Live And Direct' to energy FM listeners.
